Description: High-end graphics cards that support general processing (GPGPUs) offer a new way to improve performance of compute-intensive applications. When used on appropriate-sized models, speedup in the solver can exceed 3× compared to a 4-core run. This can represent more than 2× overall speedup in the Abaqus/Standard executable (standard.exe). Since only the solver makes use of the GPGPU, analyses where the run time is dominated by the solver will realize the greatest benefit.

GPGPU solver acceleration:

• does not support the unsymmetric solver,

• can use only a single GPGPU card,

• is supported only on shared memory computers or a single compute node of a computer cluster, and

• is available only for 64-bit Windows and Linux operating systems.
