4.12 Adding a mirror feature to a part

Product: Abaqus/CAE

Benefits: You can now add a mirror feature to a part. The mirror feature retains the complete feature history of the part, and you can select any planar face or datum plane as the mirror plane.

Description: The new mirror feature is similar to the existing mirror option available when you copy a part. However, the mirror feature has three advantages over a copied part:

In contrast, copying a part with the mirror option compresses the features so the original features are no longer available to edit. Using the mirror option while copying a part also allows you to mirror the part only about the principal planes.

Figure 4–12 shows an original part with the mirror plane highlighted and the resulting mirror features when the original geometry is kept. The center image is the result with internal boundaries, and the right image is the result without internal boundaries.

Mirror features can be deleted, suppressed, and resumed. Since you create them by making selections from the viewport, mirror features have no editable parameters.
